Therapeutic Approach

My approach is based upon humanistic psychology which is a client-centred approach believing in the client’s potential to grow towards self-actualisation. I believe clients may come to therapy because they lack fulfilment in their lives or have neglected their values and needs and do not have a sense of wholeness as a person. My task as therapist is to assist clients to explore their values, needs and wants as well as what is important and meaningful to them in their lives. With increased understanding clients are then able to work towards achieving change in their lives.

Tools

Janette has a background in Humanistic Psychology and she uses approaches including Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy, Schema Therapy and Clinical Hypnotherapy.

Client Experience

I try to ensure the client feels that their issues are heard and understood in a safe and supportive therapy environment. I endeavour to allow the client to speak about the reasons they came for therapy fully in the first session. I also like to ensure that they have an understanding of what could help them and the best practice treatment strategies which are available that I can provide. I like to develop a treatment plan in conjunction with the client and encourage them towards obtaining their goals throughout the course of the therapy. I like to assist clients to enhance their self-esteem and positivity through strategies and practices drawn from the field of positive psychology.
