About Therapist

Denise Gibb is a kind and compassionate counsellor with a background in corporate settings and an interest in helping clients with workplace issues, career and vocational areas. Denise offers telehealth appointments to her clients.

Background

Before qualifying as a counsellor, I enjoyed a fulfilling career in writing, content development, and business entrepreneurship. Alongside this, I pursued my education at esteemed institutions such as Curtin University in Perth, where I earned my Bachelor of Arts, and Swinburne University in Melbourne, where I completed a Graduate Certificate in Digital Media. Further enriching my knowledge of how people learn, I obtained a Graduate Diploma in Education from Edith Cowan University in Perth and a Cert IV in Training and Assessment from Fortress Learning in Brisbane. These experiences and my diverse professional background underscore my commitment to using knowledge to bring about positive change. Now, as a counsellor, I blend my wealth of real-world experiences with my academic qualifications to provide you with empathetic and effective therapy. My goal is to support you in navigating life's challenges, guiding you towards a path of fulfilment and personal growth - all at your own pace.

Qualifications

Denise Gibb has a Diploma of Professional Counselling and advanced certificates in Mindfulness Therapy, Grief and Loss Counselling, and Relationship Counselling.

As a member of the Australian Counselling Association, Denise remains updated with the latest science and practices in therapy, ensuring her clients receive the most effective and up-to-date treatment.

Therapeutic Approach

My therapy sessions rely on evidence-based methods such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and mindfulness practices – all tailored to your needs. This integration allows me to help you cultivate greater self-awareness, challenge unhelpful thought patterns, and develop mindfulness skills to effectively navigate difficult emotions and situations. Together, we focus on fostering insight, healing past issues, and building a solid foundation for lasting personal growth and well-being. With my personalised therapy, you can expect to gain valuable tools and insights to support your journey towards a more fulfilling and balanced life.

Tools

  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT): I employ CBT techniques to help clients identify and challenge negative thought patterns and beliefs, fostering healthier cognitive patterns and behaviours.
  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT): ACT techniques assist clients in developing mindfulness skills, accepting difficult emotions, and committing to values-aligned actions, promoting psychological flexibility and resilience.
  • Mindfulness practices: I integrate mindfulness exercises and meditation techniques to help clients cultivate present-moment awareness, reduce stress, and enhance emotional regulation.
  • Psychoeducation: I provide clients with relevant information and resources to increase their understanding of mental health issues, coping strategies, and self-care practices.
  • Grief counselling techniques: For clients experiencing grief and loss, I utilise specific counselling approaches to support them through the mourning process and facilitate healing.
  • Relationship counselling strategies: When working with clients on relationship issues, I employ techniques such as communication skills training, conflict resolution strategies, and empathy-building exercises to improve relational dynamics.
  • Stress management tools: I teach clients practical stress management techniques, including relaxation exercises, time management skills, and boundary-setting strategies, to help them cope with and reduce stress.
  • Overcoming procrastination strategies: I offer tools and techniques to improve time management, enhance motivation, and overcome avoidance behaviours for clients struggling with procrastination.

By integrating these approaches, I aim to provide tailored support to help you overcome challenges and achieve your goals.

Client Experience

Counselling is many things to different people: a confidential space where you can truly express and explore your feelings, a means to personal or professional growth, and a pathway to understanding and healing. That's why I ensure our sessions genuinely meet your needs. Whether our sessions are conversational or more goal-oriented, I aim to empower your confidence, decision-making, and resilience. I'll help you discover how to navigate life's challenges with clarity and strength.
